About us
Awiye FöreningVäst (AFV) is a fully registered independent Non-Governmental and Not for Profit civil society organization based in Falköping, Sweden and operating in Garowe-Puntland-Somalia. AFV was founded on 23rd March 2015 as a Somali-Swedish organization on politically neutral grounds to provide mentorship, advisory and facilitation services as well as a variety capacity development support activities to Somali and other refugees who migrate to Sweden by rendering them the most needed assistance to enable their peaceful resettlement and integration into Swedish Communities.
To date, AFV has reached tremendous milestones in implementing projects that resulted in creation of more job opportunities for the wider refugees. These have been particularly foreign-born women to increase their employability to enhance their long-term self-sufficiency through employment, career opportunities, or self-employment. These projects have enabled the beneficiaries to take a step closer to the labor market and increasing their opportunities to attain an independent life.
AFV has been contributing through enhancement of the participants’ knowledge in social orientation, language strengthening, computer literacy, access to the Swedish labor market and various career opportunities. It has built its reputation in Countering Violent Extremism, advocacy and support for integration of Muslim communities through engaging in psycho-socio support services to prevent social exclusion, marginalization and any forms of social stigmatization.
While our organization has its roots from Sweden, the Board of Directors in its wisdom and consultations from various Somalis in Diaspora in Sweden found it more impactful to extend the AFV services to the local communities back home in Somalia. The best practices, successes and support have thus been extended to Somalis in Puntland with a coordination office set up to link the Somalis in Sweden and those in Somalia and to jointly exploit the available opportunities both in Sweden and Somalia.
Vision
A leading pivot and bridge organization between the Somali immigrants and natives in Sweden to have a sustainable peaceful co-existence. Our vision is to improve the living standards of the people we serve by creating an enabling environment for self-reliance through sustainable local Natural resources exploitation, building a healthy environment.
Mission
To enhance a conducive environment for resettlement and integration of Somali immigrants in Sweden through mentorship, legal aid, capacity building, moral uprightness and replicating the successes to strengthen human rights, democracy, education, economic development and peace building in Somalia with a cemented Somali-Swedish alliance. To strive and improve quality of life amongst the Somali community we work with and ensure they are more Food secure, Resilient and peacefully coexist despite divergent political, social, and cultural stand point.
Goal
AFV’s long term target is to ensure effective, integrative, unifying resettlement of Somali immigrants in Sweden and ignite their sustainable relentless support to the overall development process of Somalia through knowledge, skills, and resource transfer& exchange.
